Crazy Things’ by the unknown Joe Douglas, one of Jack’s earliest productions, was cut in Philly with a Motor City backing track. From that acetate-only album, ‘Cut Loose’, was played at the 100 Club nighters in the late 90s and was issued on a now-deleted Kent Select 45 in 2007.

A newsletter is sent out every Wednesday evening, aside from that just the odd update when necessary. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. There is always an imaginary musical pot bubbling away at Kent with contenders for the next volume of this fine series. The Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities series has showcased high quality soul dance records from the 60s to the early 70s, beloved of collectors and dancers who have had their fill of the Top 500.Having put out six CDs in the series, Kent thought it was about time for a vinyl release, and here it is - 14 tracks of the absolute crème de la crème.

This latest episode of the high-quality end of the Northern Soul world is as varied as the scene has become, featuring manic funk, Detroit grooves, doo wop-inspired ballads, neo-Motown and pure soul stompers. That disc eventually became a Northern Soul classic, as did Jackie Day’s ‘Naughty Boy’, Johnnie Taylor’s ‘Friday Night’ and Betty Turner’s ‘The Winds Kept Laughing’. More recently we acquired the Fidels’ version of the Puffs’ Doré sleeper ‘I Only Cry Once A Day Now’ – a historic recording from the revered group. Our other Jesse, Mr Davis demoed his big beat ballad ‘There’s Someone For me’ for none other than Dean Martin who must have been on a bender when he foolishly rejected it. In the edit page, go to the 'Metadata' tab and add your Juno artist, label or release page for listeners to purchase your release / releases. The lesser-known Inconquerables single should have been dubbed as by the Unobtainables so few are its sightings. We’ve positioned a wodge of funk-edged soul into the CD and hope to have your toes-a-tapping if not actually four-cornering around your living room by the end of it. Enjoy this strong selection in a classic Kent LP format and, if you've avoided digital up to now, remember there are another 130 equally fine tracks out there waiting for you on CD.

We carry a broad range of CDs and vinyl (7”/12” singles and LPs) and specialise in indie, alternative, rock, punk, metal plus a few other genres. The Houston Outlaws’ ‘Ain’t No Telling’ has a bittersweet melody which creates a perfect setting for the group’s fine vocals, while on Troy Dodds’ ‘Try My Love’ it’s the haunting atmosphere that dominates, with his brooding voice abetted by a superb female backing group. Quite simply, it's a work of art, structured around a highly-addictive backbeat and complemented by a infectious saxophone along with some compelling guitar work.Other prized items include Ty Karim’s ‘You Just Don’t Know’, Eddie Whitehead’s soulful floater ‘Just Your Fool’ and the poppy stomper ‘Losing Control’ from Mary Saxton, a white teenager with a voice like Tina Turner. This activity is still prevalent today and it's virtually impossible to put into words the sheer thrill and delight on hearing a quality 'new' side on tape which leaps immediately to the top of your 'wants' list and you spend the next twenty years in the fervent hope that one day you WILL unearth a copy! Two years later we made the move to our present address, 35 The Headrow, where we have remained ever since. Special mention in dispatches for Barbara Redd's I'll Be All Alone, which potentially may raise a few eyebrows.

High-quality dance records from across the Northern Soul spectrum – floor-fillers, chin-strokers, the esoteric and the sometimes obvious. We also run our own record label, we host a show on Solar radio and produce mixes of our favourite sounds on Mixcloud. The general equation runs something like this: rare, in Northern Soul parlance, is generally qualified by the number of known copies of each 45 being in single figures.
