The 99 Names of Allah are of great importance to Muslims, as they are seen to provide insight into the divine nature of Allah and are used as a way to connect with Him. Tawhid is the first pillar of Islam and establishes that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى)‎ is the One and only God. He‎ has various unique attributes, and the 99 Names of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) in Islam are a means of representing and glorifying all His divine virtues. As Muslims, we must uphold Tawhid in harmony with Allah’s (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) beautiful names, as is mentioned repeatedly in the Holy Quran:

Zikir or the act of remembrance does not only mean to utter it through the tongue. It also means to ponder and contemplate upon it. This means to reflect on the Names as described in the Quran. The more we read and learn, the clearer the picture is of these virtuous and beautiful Names. The Exalter, The Elevator, The One who lowers whoever He willed by His Destruction and raises whoever He willed by His Endowment. They reassure us that the All-Mighty always watches over us and protects us during hardship and turmoil. The 99 Names of Allah denote the highest level of closeness and spirituality to Allah in Islam. When we come to understand the ninety names of Allah, we can begin to see the world in a new light. If we understand how Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ is Al-Alim (the all-knowing), Al-Hakeem (the wise one), and Al-Muqsit (the just one) we would come to understand that whatever happens to a believer, that whatever Allah decrees would be good for him or her. Suhaib reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (God), thus there is a good for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shows resignation (and endures it patiently), there is a good for him in it. [3] If you believe in Allah and know his attributes you would not question, complain, or curse the world around you when faced with a difficult situation. Knowing the beautiful names of Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ and understanding what they mean would help you, it would guide you to endure patiently. They would bring you comfort and give you peace.Say to them (O Prophet!): “Call upon Him as Allah or call upon Him as al-Rahman; call Him by whichever name you will, all His names are beautiful. Neither offer your Prayer in too loud a voice, nor in a voice too low; but follow a middle course.” ( 17:110) The Delayer, The One who puts things in their right places. He makes ahead what He wills and delays what He wills. 73

Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Allah says: ‘I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.’” [ Hadith; Sahih al-Bukhari 7405] The 99 names of Allah are filled with immense potency, which is why Muslims from all over the world recite them often for both spiritual growth as well as worldly success. The recitation of these names helps to increase faith in Allah, enabling believers to become closer to Him, leading to tranquility and inner peace. They also provide guidance on how one should conduct their lives according to Islamic teachings and serve as a reminder that Allah is always near – providing comfort when it’s needed most. O the All-Glorified, Who is absolutely free from all deficiencies and imperfections and from doing anything wrong or in vain, This book makes me cry. Why? Because Allah is the First and Last and it makes me realise that we should start to see His attributes in the minutiae of our everyday.

Every abled Muslims, also termed as the Mukallaf, is obliged to learn and know about Allah s.w.t. to arrive at a sound belief with reason and a faithful heart. It is considered to be our most important responsibility. In fact, our very soul and being longs deeply to know about our Sublime Creator. Imam Al-Ghazali mentions: The act of remembrance calls us to not only limit it in our contemplation but to also express it through actions. What it means here is to internalise the virtue and beauty to embody it in our actions where it is due. An example is the hadith of mercy mentioned by the Prophet s.a.w. The tasbih of His names, reveals His greatness and motivates us to emulate His qualities in our lives.

Sometimes learning is best supplemented by teaching others what we know. So you can encourage your children to teach what they have learnt to their younger siblings, cousins, or friends. You can also help them make a small video about what they have learnt and send it out to their grandparents, aunts, and uncles etc. We pray that this exercise will not only secure what you have taught them, but they will get to love Allah more the more they talk about Him. Tell them this Hadith Qudsi so that they can get excited about this activity in shaa Allah: Learn the 99 Names of ALLAH with Zaky (34 to 66)– You can find the list of 99 Names of Allah with references from the Quran and Sunnah HERE (based on Sheikh Uthaymeen’s list).Learn the 99 Names of ALLAH with Zaky (1 to 33)– please note that some of the names of Allah (like Ar-Raafi’) is disputed among the scholars so it’s best to stay on the safe side. The video overall is useful alhamdulillah. Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah has ninety-nine Names, i.e., one hundred minus one, and whoever believes in their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter Paradise; and Allah is witr (one) and loves ‘the witr’ (i.e., odd numbers). [2] Listen, recite, and write the Names of Allah repeatedly to ensure you memorize them. You can listen to or recite them while commuting or before going to sleep, and you can write them while sitting at your workstation during breaks. This is also a great way to incorporate the Dhikr of Allah’s (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) names in your daily routine. The most mentioned name of Allah in the Holy Quran is Al-Ghafur (The Ever-Forgiving). It occurs 91 times.
