So many friends recommended that I read Lord of Scoundrels, and I can’t believe it took me so long to pick up this book! A estória parte da sofrida infância do personagem principal, o Marquês Sebastian Dain, passa pela sua adolescência marcada pela rejeição paterna e o bulling dos colegas de colégio e chega na vida adulta, marcada pelos traumas do passado e o comportamento desregrado e muitas vezes violento. I liked her writing style, as it was fun, in your face, quite funny, very witty, with some historical inaccuracies and some modern turn of phrases with a little bit of Old testament flavour (all of which I am willing to ignore). Cursed and scorned as a child with a “grossly overlarge nose” and “ill-proportioned limbs” inherited from his Italian mother’s side of the family, Dain had always been the outcast because of his big body and swarthy visage. But how can you just do this big jump start all at once, even thou it changes all your former beliefs? I've had this book on my radar for the longest time as it kept appearing in the "Readers Also Liked" lists.I loved that Jessica could go toe-to-toe with Dain’s acerbic tongue and would constantly flip the tables on him. From the beginning I could see them both clearly in my minds eye and felt, through clever writing by the author, their attraction to each other (even if neither of them actually wanted to feel anything) and a good picture of the people they were mixing with and the places they were situated in. Also he can speak Italian any hour of the day, preferably on the ones whilst he’s seeing to the flooding bit. I have already started reading another book by the same author - The English Witch that is so far a promising read. When her brother introduces her to the Marquess of Dain, there's an immediate attraction between the two of them.
