About this deal

The AT-VM95E delivers more substance in the bass but less sparkle in the treble, not to forget its wonderfully revitalised midrange. I may be doing the Ortofon a disservice not knowing how old the stylus was, but going on reviews i switched to a AT95E. Such a low total capacitance is not easy to attain, requiring a phono pre-amp with very low capacitance, probably less than 100pF (after taking out cable capacitance). I did my testing using the Lacinato ABX audio testing software, which is free to use, listening via Audio Technica ATH-M50 closed-back headphones. The AT VM95ML will take care all of your sibilance and IGD problems except for those that have been baked into the vinyl, and even those will sound much better.

Stylus Profile: Elliptical Diamond (upgrade for ATN93, ATN3400, ATN3401, ATN3410), Tracking Force: 1. What a difference after managing to get the AT set up properly the clarity and overall definition blew me away.I would not describe its sound as big and expansive, but it generally produces a neat sound that spans the full frequency spectrum without over-stepping the mark in any department. The biggest downside with the AT95E is that it can sound a bit boring and boxed-in, whereas the Ortofon 2M Red might become slightly fatiguing in the long run, especially if you have a bright system. The AT100E is certainly more focused than the AT95E right across the frequency range, with a firmer bass and a sharper treble, uncovering noticeably more detail. Also would you say the AT95E is more present sounding than your Shure M97xE, how would you compare the audible differences.

But this is where taste comes in, as I can imagine some people preferring the AT95E for its more gentle, easy-going character.

In the end there wasn't that much of a sonic difference with the only real difference noted was a somewhat 'warmer' sound from the M97xE, probably due to the increased output in the 30 to 60 Hz range combined with the slight upper treble roll off. A buddy of mine just got an AT LP120 and I was giving him some tips for setup, when I decided to fiddle with my setup as a refresher, so I knew I was giving him accurate advice. It seems silly to suggest to someone that their stylus is wearing down because of misalignment when completely ignoring the possibility that someone is seasoned enough to understand that styli wears down after time. pero definitivamente vale la pena para subir de nivel tu tornamesa, y la aguja es de mejor calidad así que a largo plazo protege tus viniles. We could never get the AT95E, even a couple of weeks old, to track without distortion towards the spindle/label area.

If that’s not feasible, I do think the VMN95ML stylus on the existing AT95 body is still a better option than the aftermarket styli.

I created this site to share my vinyl and Hi-Fi journey with you, and to give you help and advice on yours.

Thanks for this review, I was considering both of these, but with Ortofon currently going for up to 3/4 of the AT part cost this was a no brainer decision, based on your evaluation and files. They supply slot-head screws, which are a total menace to fit if you attach them pointing upwards as you are supposed to.The AT95E has all the warmth and smoothness you can ask for, but it unfortunately sounds too boxed-in to get a perfect score from me. So is the overall consensus that the ML styli upgrade for the 95e is the better way to go versus the aftermarket options from LP Gear and Turntable Needles?
